Summary
A leading Italian technical university, home to a large and growing international faculty, holds its core governance meetings — including Department Council sessions and faculty seminars — exclusively in Italian. For non-Italian-speaking teaching staff, this meant being present in the room without being able to fully follow or contribute to the discussion.
To close this gap, the university adopted KUDO’s AI speech translation, giving international faculty real-time access to Italian-language meetings in English — without changing how the meetings are run.
The Challenge
Before KUDO, the university had not found a tool that could reliably deliver simultaneous translation for its internal meetings:
- Language barrier in core governance meetings: Department Council meetings and other key academic sessions were conducted only in Italian, leaving international teaching staff unable to fully understand or engage
- No reliable existing solution: Previous tools the university tested did not deliver translation accurate or usable enough for real meeting conditions
- Risk to faculty inclusion: As the university’s international teaching staff grew, the inability to follow Italian-only meetings created a recurring barrier to participation and inclusion
The university needed a translation tool that could keep pace with live, fast-moving academic discussion — not just a generic captioning add-on.

The Solution
The university implemented KUDO AI’s real-time speech translation to translate its Department Council meetings from Italian to English, run on a recurring monthly basis. The same solution is also used on demand during faculty seminars, giving the university flexibility to extend translation support beyond standing governance meetings whenever international staff need it.
By adopting KUDO, the university gave its international teaching staff direct, real-time access to meetings that were previously out of reach — replacing a search for “any valuable tool” with one the institution has confirmed performs best against the alternatives it tested.
